Uses the entered cutting data; an optional machine limit caps RPM and recomputes feed. It does not recommend material or tool data.

Example
RPM

How it works

Convert tool diameter, cutting speed, tooth count and chip load into spindle RPM and table feed.

RPM = k × Vc / (πD); Vf = RPM × z × fz

How to use it
  1. Enter your values
    • Unit for every dimension
    • Cutting tool diameter, measured across the cutter
    • Vc
    • z
    • fz
    • RPM max
  2. Calculation method

    RPM = k × Vc / (πD); Vf = RPM × z × fz

  3. Example scenario · Result

    3,819.718634 RPM

Calculation method

  1. First calculate the uncapped spindle speed from cutting speed and cutter diameter.
  2. In RPM = k × Vc / (πD), k is 1000 for D in mm and Vc in m/min, or 12 for D in inches and Vc in ft/min.
  3. Apply a positive machine RPM limit, then multiply the resulting RPM by tooth count and feed per tooth to obtain table feed.
  4. The reduction percentage compares capped and uncapped RPM.
RPM = k × Vc / (πD); Vf = RPM × z × fz

Frequently asked questions

Does the RPM cap keep the same chip load?

Yes. Feed is recalculated from capped RPM × teeth × chip load.

Measurement system

The initial choice follows your browser region. Your choice is remembered on this device. Gallons are US gallons. Switching units keeps your numbers unchanged and interprets them in the new unit.

Numbers stay unchanged. Check the new unit and enter the intended measurement, or select an example for that system.

Common mistakes and quick fixes

Cutting tool diameter, measured across the cutter · Vc · fz

Mistake: Changing units and assuming the entered numbers were converted.

Fix: Numbers stay unchanged. Check the new unit and enter the intended measurement, or select an example for that system.

Does the RPM cap keep the same chip load?

Mistake: Treating a result as valid outside the described scope.

Fix: Yes. Feed is recalculated from capped RPM × teeth × chip load.

Limits and key assumptions

  • Yes. Feed is recalculated from capped RPM × teeth × chip load.
  • Uses the entered cutting data; an optional machine limit caps RPM and recomputes feed.
  • It does not recommend material or tool data.
  • Displayed results may be rounded; rounding does not add measurement precision.
